Stunning Wine Jelly Wins Major Gong
Congratulations to Kathryn & Michael Luciano of The Grape Alternative whose Shiraz & Lemon Thyme wine jelly won the trophy for the “Champion Product in Show” at The Royal Agricultural Society of Tasmania Royal Hobart Fine Food Awards 2006.
So, for some of you who thought this newsletter was just about wine I can image you are thinking to yourself “so what?” The “so what” is that this product is made with wines supplied by Miramar & Robert Stein Wines of Mudgee, winning the gong amongst 500 odd other products! This is an exceptional effort made all the more so by the fact that the Hobart show along with the Sydney Royal Fine Food Show are at the pinnacle of fine food shows in Australia!
Having started their business in 1996, this accolade has been a wonderful 10th Birthday present for Kathryn & Michael whose aim was to produce unique hand made condiments which make it easy to produce tasty innovative meals. “One of the pleasures in life is enjoying good food and wine with a minimum amount of fuss in preparation”, Michael says.
If you are unfamiliar with these wine jellies, they are not ‘jams’ as much as savoury jellies used in much the same way as you would use mint jelly with roast lamb. The beauty of the Shiraz & Lemon Thyme wine jelly is that it complements Ham, Chicken & Turkey so well. So with cooler weather a couple of months away (thank goodness, I’m such a winter person) keep this fantastic wine jelly in mind.
Keep an eye out for the February 'Wine Plus… Wine Stuff' newsletter for exciting recipe ideas.
